Physical Education
Intent
At Hopton C of E Primary Academy, our intent in Physical Education is to deliver a high-quality PE curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive, creative, and cooperative physical activities, in line with the National Curriculum.
We aim to ensure that pupils:
- Develop physical competence, confidence, and control in a broad range of activities
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time
- Engage in competitive sport and physical challenges
- Lead healthy, active lifestyles and understand the importance of fitness and wellbeing
PE also supports the development of whole-child outcomes, including resilience, teamwork, leadership, and respect.
Implementation
PE is taught through a progressive, well-sequenced curriculum that follows National Curriculum requirements and builds skills year on year and follows our newly introduced PE scheme, Complete PE.
At Hopton C of E Primary Academy, we aim to ensure that we provide:
- Two hours of PE per week for all pupils
- A broad range of activities including:
- Games (invasion, net/wall, striking and fielding)
- Gymnastics
- Dance
- Athletics
- Outdoor and adventurous activities (where appropriate)
- Clear progression in fundamental movement skills, tactics, and performance
- Inclusive teaching that ensures all pupils can participate and succeed.
- Opportunities for competition, both intra- and inter-school – Including, but not limited to UV Sports Events, Multi Sports Events and Rounders tournaments.
Impact
The impact of our PE curriculum is that pupils will:
- Meet the end-of-key-stage expectations of the National Curriculum
- Demonstrate improved physical skills, stamina, strength, and coordination
- Show increased confidence and enjoyment in physical activity
- Understand how to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle
- Apply values such as fair play, teamwork, resilience, and respect
By the time pupils leave our school, they are physically literate, motivated, and equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to continue participating in sport and physical activity beyond school.
